Institutions using The Credit Referencing Association of Australia (CRAA) may report any late payments or non payments to The Credit Referencing Association of Australia (CRAA).
Many companies use this and is can have a long term negative effect on your ability to obtain finance or credit.
Institutions and companies that use credit ratings to judge your ability to service a debt include:
- Banks
- Insurance Companies
- Car Loan Companies
- Mobile Phone Providers
- Electricity Companies
- Gas Companies
- Real Estate Agents
- Internet Service Providers
And many more.
Whenever you apply for finance with one of these companies and a debt owing has been listed, your ability to obtain credit with this company may be hampered until you have:
Contacted the company claiming you owe the debt Repaid the Debt or Had the debt listing removed.
In some instances it is not possible to have these ratings removed for a period of time of up to 5-7 years.
A great example of why you should always negotiate payments and settlements with companies you own money to if repaying a debt is causing you hardship or not possible.
If you have ever declared insolvency or have been made bankrupt chances are, Banks will never loan to you again (you should always check with your bank as rules differ bank to bank)
There is an alternative and you may be familiar with it and it is called Rent to Buy
You will need to carefully source “Rent to Buy” providers. Many companies use a Credit Card service such as Visa or Master Card.
In these instances, they will most likely use a Credit Check to see if there are any debts owing by you and and the finance will be declined.
Many privatley owned businesses now offer Rent to Buy services and do not subscribe to the CRAA. The benefit of this is that you can obtain the product without worrying about your Credit Rating.
Many second had car rental providers have long provided this service.
